Ram(a)

Ram(a) is one of the primary avatars in Hinduism. Rawat mostly mentions him in passing as one of the prior Perfect Masters in his authorised lineage of Incarnatiosn of God who include Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, Mohammed, Kabir, Guru Nanak, Swarupanand (his father's guru), his father Shri Hans Rawat and others of that ilk. In the late 1970's Rawat often used a story of Hanuman and Ram when he began to stress devotion to Himself as being the Supreme experience of life and downgrading liberation and enlightenment. Devotion to a guru or Master is easily attained, there are thousands of Masters and millions of devotees. Liberation is extremely difficult if it is even possible.

Maharaji teaching about Ram

Hans Rawat (father of Maharaji), Prem Nagar Ashram, Hardwar, India
However, the inherent quality of the Holy Name of the Almighty is to make the heart sacred and pure the moment that it is known and realised. The case of Ratnaker can be cited as an example of the power of the Holy Name. He was a ferocious bandit but as soon as he received Knowledge of the Holy Name he was transformed and became a great saint. People have been made to believe that names like Ram, Krishna, God, Om, Elahi, Jehovah and Akhbar are the real Name of God and that He can be realised by uttering these names. This is also a delusion - a mere deception, for these names only signify His attributes, they are just adjectives. They are not His real Name.

Maharaji Teachings About Ram

Shri Hans Ji Maharaj (Maharaji's Father) The True Name Of God Is The Basis Of Bliss
Saint Tulsidasji wrote, "How can I adequately glorify the Name? Even Lord Shri Rama could not sing the glory of Ram-Nam". Meera Bai says, "O mind! The essence of this world is the nectar; only Holy Name can redeem from cycle of birth and death." Tell me if anyone could be saved from death without this Name. It is written in our scriptures that we should bow at the feet of saints. This is not written for elephants and animals. Go to the Spiritual Master, prostrate to him and ask. Then he will impart the knowledge of the Name which is indivisible and which redeems us from the cycle of birth and death.

Maharaji Teachings About Ram

Prem Nagar India, 22 September 1967
Only one who has seen and known God within himself can see God in buildings, temples, books, rosary beads, and so on. Some people call Him "Ram," but they don't know His true form. What is the meaning of "Ram?" He who resides in every atom "Ram." People haven't known Him within themselves, and yet they say, "He's here; He's there He's everywhere!" What is His true form? Aren't we all eager to know His true identity? It is said, "My form is such, that even the brilliance of one thousand suns can never equal it." If His form is so magnificent and if we have such a desire to know it, what's the trouble? Know Him, Know His Name. Even though God is One He pervades everywhere. So what is His real form? If you want to know His true Name and want to see His true form, then take refuge in Guru Maharaj Ji. When you have this Knowledge, you will not need to know anything else. You will know why this human body has been given to you.

Maharaji's Teachings about Ram

"Peace Bomb" speech, India Gate, Delhi, India, November 8 1970
Therefore, dear premies, the time has come. See how peace will be established in the world. There will be peace on earth. That peace which disappeared shall prevail again. It will come, and once again the world will understand. So listen to me and act accordingly. Bow down before Guru Maharaj Ji! … Therefore, dear premies, the time has come for restlessness to be destroyed and the Kingdom of Peace to be established. Whether you take it as my prophecy or anything else, the Kingdom of Peace will be established soon. … The great leaders think that I have come to rule and yes, they are right! I will rule the world, and just watch how I will do it. Even the lion and sheep will embrace each other. Has there been such a king before? Krishna was not such a king. Rama was not such a king. There were lesser powers in Ram, there were lesser powers in Krishna, but I have come to the world with full powers.

Maharaji's Teachings About Ram

Hollywood, California, August 11, 1971
This is the Knowledge that Jesus Christ gave, that Guru Nanak gave, that Krishna gave, that Ram gave, that Mohammed gave. And I am giving it. Supreme Knowledge. It is sacred. Top sacred! And it dwells within all of us. All human beings. And we are unable to know it without the help of the true Master. That is what I am teaching. Yes?

Guru Maharaj Ji answers questions in Boulder, Colorado on August 18, 1971
Q: Would you speak on the subject of reincarnation?
A: See, reincarnation means that a realized soul, which is one at a time, comes and reveals that Truth to people. Ram, Krishna, Buddha, Kabir, Nanak, Guru Govind Singh … and also Christ - and there are many. They are all called incarnations. They come to give this Knowledge to people so that they may be done with all the sufferings of this world. Like Krishna says, "When there will be a decline in the true religion, I will come to save it and form one religion." Which he did. And "religion" means realization. "Religion" has started from a word "realization."

But when Ram came … do you know who Ram is? Ram? No. He was a saint. He was an avatar, an incarnation of his time. He came and after all, he became a king. The whole Ramayana is about him. He is a king and he doesn't say to people, "This is my order, that you all have to receive the Knowledge that I give." He never says that. He says, "I humbly tell you that there is a sacred Name of God that has been made for you." Not like, "No, this is my order! Don't do that, don't do that, don't do that."

GMJ: If Jesus Christ wasn't crucified nobody would have respected him. Everybody can remember Jesus Christ because he was hanging up on the cross. And that was the crucification, and if that crucification had not taken place nobody would have respected Jesus Christ.
Q: Are they going to respect you?
A : Yes, I'm going to be strict about it
Q: But the Bible, The New Testament, tells that Jesus is living now.
A: So Jesus is living, right! Jesus is living. Ram is living now, Krishna is living now, Buddha is living now, but they all have been united. All their powers have been united into one very, very, very, very powerful power. And then this power spreads it's hand, you know, like this, something is going to happen. All this, all the things that are going on wrong in this world are going to be abolished.

Jesus came into this world and gave this Knowledge to people. Mohammed came into this world and gave this Knowledge to people. Krishna gave this Knowledge to people. Ram gave this Knowledge to people. But now we must look for a living Master to show us the Light once again. Because the sun comes and goes away and we don't look for the light of the sun which has just gone. We look for the new rising sun. The sun is the same but it rises in a new way, in a new, beautiful way and we look for that. In the same way, God is the same, but now we must look for His coming and for His Knowledge.

And it is just by concentrating this mind upon that perfect - and it's not hard, because it is within inside of you. And it's very easy to concentrate. It's like, all Perfect Masters have written about this Knowledge. This is really interesting, because see, Jesus came. He came in Middle East. Krishna came. He came in India. Ram came. He came in India. And all these Masters came. But still they say the same exact thing! They say about the Word. They say about the Light. They say about that far out Knowledge that is all within inside of us, that something to understand, that something that we call. That little something. What is that little something?
something that is perfect will never have to express itself, because it's perfect by itself. To whom - to whom will it express? To whom will it go and say, "Well, here I am, perfectness. Realize me; I am the perfectness." So, this is the reason that always why Perfect Master is born into this world. To actually make us - He doesn't come and say, "Well, I am the Perfect Master." how many people understand this, out of Ramayana, where Tulsidas says, means, the whole story is about Ram; how fantastic He was, how beautiful He was, what He did in His life. And doing all this, praising Ram so highly - all the miracles, all the things - why does he say that, "Till which extent should I sing the glory of this Holy Name? Even Lord Ram Himself cannot sing the glory of this Holy Name." I said, "How many people read that daily?" I tell you, there are thousands and thousands of people. But, they never try to realise that Word. They never try to realise that Holy Name. See? Lord Ram, when He went back to His Kingdom, and He was standing like this before everybody, all His citizens there, and He says that, "Before everybody, with my closed hands like this, I pray to everybody that; understand that holy secret, understand that Holy Word. … So after all, which is that common factor which is one, to which even Lord Ram respects, and to which even Lord Shankar respects. What is that? And that is this Holy Name. And when we understand this Holy Name - by whose Grace? By Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace. … He is away from our concepts, away from our explanations, away from our emotional explanations, away from all these three types of chains that every human being is tied in. To such Guru Maharaj Ji, I bow my head. And that is that thing that Guru Maharaj Ji reveals. Why? Because that is His duty - that is His Name, that is His quality, who comes here to reveal us this Holy Name.

This is the joy, this is the wonderful, beautiful experience those saints had, those fortunate premies had, who were able to realize the Perfect Master. Like John was able to realize Christ. Like Arjuna was able to realize Krishna. Like Hanuman was able to realize Ram. They could understand that their Saviour, that their Father, that their shelter was still there, and that they could still run to it. Premies, it's said that in this world we have always needed a Saviour, because this world has constantly been changing and changing and changing and changing.

If you look in any scriptures, they really don't go in very much detail about this Knowledge. Ramayana is this thick a scripture, and even at one point it just comes and stops and says -- this is the line, it says -- cannot, I can never sing the glory, sing the praise of this Holy Word. Or to what extent should I sing it? Lord Ram himself cannot sing it." And it just goes on a little bit, and then that's it. And in Bible, it's the Word, it's the Knowledge, and that's about it. In Gita, there is just a little bit of explanation, and that's about it. And the reason for that is that you can never verbally really describe how beautiful, how perfect, this Knowledge is.

As I said before, this world was not made for problems. Therefore there are no solutions. This world was made for one reason. And there is only one reason. And the reason is for every individual to come together, to come into one, to become one, to really understand this Knowledge. Tell me one thing. People might say, "Well, why would God create such a fantastic earth? Why would a Creator create such a fantastic environment just for people to come together?" Tell me, what did Jesus do when he came? Tell me, what did Krishna do when he came? Tell me, what did Ram do when he came? Bring people together through Knowledge. Through this experience that he gave, he brought people together.

And premies, today is the time. Today, in our lives, right at this moment we have an opportunity to put that difference, to put that mind aside and really, really experience Knowledge. This is why Jesus came, this is why Ram came, this is why Krishna came, this is why Mohammed came, this is why Buddha came. I have a practical experience of Knowledge, and I will never deny that. And nobody can come up to me and shatter that experience of Knowledge that I have. And I know it is beautiful. This is not a hypocritic thing; this is not a fake thing, this is a true experience of Knowledge that I talk about - and I want you to have that, period. Why? Because you're humans and you're alive. Isn't that a good reason? That is the only reason: because you're here, you have been born here. And to me, the only reason that we get born here is to plug back into that infinite source, into that infinite energy.

Fantastic. Do we also know what happened at that time? People rejected. People refused. Now, have we taken preventive measures" Have we been quarantined against this? Have we had our innoculations so that when Lord comes this time everybody is going to say, "Right on! I accept you …

Then Hanuman reaches such a stage that Lord Ram asks him, "What do you want, Hanuman? Whatever you want, I will bestow upon you. Whatever you want. Whatever you desire." And at that time, Hanuman just didn't do a flashback and say, "Oh boy, maybe I shouldn't desire anything, and I'll get it - what I want!" But he did go ahead and desire something. He did go ahead and want something. (And I'm just explaining to you the complexity of this whole thing.) So when he does desire something, what does he desire? He says, "I do not want any liberation. I do not want to be liberated. I want to come again and again, as you come into this world, with your body, to serve you. I do not want liberation. All I want is to be able to serve you every time you come."

Because look how many scriptures that have been written. How many Perfect Masters have been on this earth? And yet it had to be an individual, person-to-person basis. I mean, if that Perfect Master wanted, he could have consolidated Mohammed, Jesus, Krishna, Ram, every one of them, in one format; John, Luke, Arjuna, Hanuman, in one format. And there'd be just two people, and they'd just come down, and that would be it. But no, that's not the way it is.

I believe in Arjun. I believe in Nanak." No! We do not believe; we experience. And there is a vast difference between believing, and knowing and experiencing. And we experience. We experience Jesus. We don't just talk about Jesus. We experience Jesus. Because in fact, who Jesus was was not a physical format. We experience the Jesus that Jesus talked about. We experience the Ram that Ram talked about. We experience the Krishna that Krishna talked about. And we experience that Knowledge that all the Perfect Masters talked about. Now. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Saturday, 26 August, 1978
And when Guru Maharaj Ji comes, when we open our hearts to Guru Maharaj Ji and let Guru Maharaj Ji in ourselves, then Guru Maharaj Ji takes us away, takes us beyond liberation. Because liberation is a state of being. And Guru Maharaji takes us to a state where there is no being. He merges you in himself. And by doing that, you leave what you are and you become what you should be. And that's the shortcut to all the chakras in this whole universe. That's the shortcut to all this "pazzaz" that people put up. That's the shortcut to liberation, if you say it in that way. Or that is the short cut to the Way. Or that is the Way in itself. And that's what we have to understand. Guru Maharaj Ji is here. That Knowledge is here. And you are here.
Hanuman was asked, "What do you want? Would you like liberation?" Ram said, "I'll give you anything that you want." And he said, "I don't want liberation. What I am going to do with liberation? I want devotion." Because when Hanuman could have merged with Ram, then it would have been above and beyond any best situation. It's just like that one example where they were building a bridge. (Now when I say this, there's no certification behind it. It's just, that's the way it goes in Ramayana. And I haven't read that.)

Wasn't Jesus Christ judged, whether or not he was the Perfect Master? Wasn't Mohammed judged? Wasn't Krishna judged? Wasn't Ram judged? Wasn't Shri Maharaj Ji judged? All the Perfect Masters have been judged, as though if we are the real smart cream of the crop of this entire universe, that we have the capability of judging the Lord of the Universe when he does come. Obviously not. But anyway, we judge. And our judgement is based upon different concepts.
One time a lot of so-called intellectual people came up to Shri Maharaj Ji and they said, "What are you trying to do? What are you talking about?" … You can imagine these guys who are thinking that they're heroes, people of the people, yet they didn't know they were talking to the Lord of Lords. I mean this is stupidity.

And to have faith in Guru Maharaj Ji, to believe Guru Maharaj Ji, and to have that devotion towards Guru Maharaj Ji, is to me the most ultimate experience of this Knowledge. Devotion. Never, ever has a Perfect Master gone up to his devotee and said, "Listen devotee, because you have meditated enough, I grant you a wish." No. "You have been a devotee. You had devotion. You have surrendered. You have done service. I grant you a wish." And what wish did Hanuman ask when Ram said, "Okay Hanuman, I give you a wish. You may have anything you want"? Did he say, "May I, every time I come in this world, have Knowledge?" No. He said, "Look, I don't want liberation." He said, "I want devotion."

Yes, you can go to one religion after another religion after another religion and never end up with a realization. Never. One religion says, "Mohammed. That's who". And one religion says, "No. Krishna. That's it." "Ram. That's it," One religion says, "No, no. no. Wait a minute. You're all wrong. Buddha. That's it." Other one says, "Listen, you've had enough. God. Everybody has a picture of God. You know, children (sucks snot up nose) they have a picture of God, This bi-i-i-ig, hu-u-uge man, you know, that's got, that can fly in a leap you know able to cross tall buildings in one leap, faster than a speeding bullet, just immaculate thing, immaculate being. We have it, in our own ways. People who believe in Ram, people who believe in Krishna, people who believe in Mohammed, people who believe in Christ, people who believe in, in Buddha have their own Gods in their own different formats. I mean, everyone of us has our different ideas of what that Creator really is. Everyone of us thinks that we know, we are right and yet, all it is, is just our painting. And Guru Maharaj Ji comes, you know, Guru Maharaj Ji comes into this world and everybody thinks that Guru Maharaj Ji is also going to pick up a piece of canvas, a bunch of paint brushes, paint and start painting a picture and we'll all see the picture and Ta-da, that'll be it.

You know it seems so evident that by now everybody would understand, that everybody would understand all the mistakes human beings have made in the past with the Perfect Masters and would not commit the same mistakes again. Too many stories and too many examples. The cost of every living Perfect Master who has incarnated into this Earth. Look at Krishna. Look at Ram. Look at Mohammed. Look at Buddha. Guru Nanak.
You know, we think there are so many experiences out there. But every living Perfect Master has come to reveal one experience. After all, there is something behind it. Isn't there? And how simple does Guru Maharaj Ji make it? Tell me, how simple did Jesus make it when he came?

Maharaji teaching about Ram

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, October 10, 1979 -- Evening
Yet remember one thing: that that Guru Maharaj Ji, who is creator, who is the Sustainer, and who is the Destroyer, has love enough for his devotees to come onto this Earth for his devotees; then absolutely, unquestionably, there are no bounds to what can happen. All we have to do is to become that devotee, to have that devotion. That's all: that faith, that surrender, to Guru Maharaj Ji, that love that is sincere, that comes from our hearts for Guru Maharaj Ji. Not in our imagination, but in reality. If we can become a devotee … If there is Guru Maharaj Ji and then a devotee, when they join, then there is devotion. And it is said that when that happens, when Guru Maharaj Ji and a devotee are bound together by devotion, then the purpose of that soul that devotee has been completed. That's it. There is no more to be done. There is nothing left to be done. It has received the stage beyond liberation. It has received, it has joined, it has merged in the state which is beyond, above and beyond - joined its Creator. It has joined its Owner. It has joined where it came from; it has joined back to its own. … When Hanuman and Ram were there, Ram asks Hanuman, "Okay, I grant you a boon. Ask what you would like to ask. Would you like something? Would you like salvation? Would you like liberation?" And all Hanuman could say was, "What am I going to do with salvation? What am I going to do up there? I want to be with you. That's where I shall find my salvation, that's where I shall find my liberation: in your Feet."

That's exactly the thing with devotion. Devotion is that connection that all those devotees at that time of Jesus had to him, that Arjun had to Krishna, that Hanuman had to Ram. It's that link between what that Master comes in this world for and what we are here for. It's that ultimate link. That's the devotion. That is devotion. When we try to take our concepts again and somehow monkey it all up, with our devotion - take our concepts, fake our devotion and try to lay our concepts on top of the devotion - it doesn't work. It doesn't work for any of us. Because, again, it has to be sincere. It has to be the point of surrender. It has to be to the point of that clarity where you can understand, where you can see, where it's beyond ego, where it's beyond doubt.

If Jesus never loved anybody on this earth he would have never come and if his followers didn't love him, they would never have followed him around and this goes for Ram, this goes for Krishna and this goes from Mahomed and this goes for every single being coming into this world and for a matter of fact any human being present on the face of this earth whether they like it or not are in search of the true love. Maybe they think they can get it out of this and maybe they think they can get it out of this and what they get is a lot of disappointment and they think that the love is a heartache. Like I was saying when Jesus came in this world he didn't say, "Now go read the Bible, that is the word, so long." "Did he?" No, he couldn't have. Krishna just didn't turn around Arjun and say "Arjun I know you have a lotta doubts, here's a quick lesson in speed reading, and here's Gita, read it, real quick and we can get on fighting. How could he, how could he tell him that? How could Ram turn around to Hanuman and say Hanuman let's relax here. Just let's relax, you know what the story is right. Here is Ramayan, I am gonna get Sita back and then I am going to lose her again. What's the point in chasing her? Let's go back. Isn't that, isn't that what happened? I mean, if you don't know the story, I'll tell you the story in a very short, abbreviated form. There was Ram and he gets married with Sita and Raven comes along, steals Sita, Ram's wife, now Ram is looking for Sita, he finally, just this whole battle, just this whole scene, gets Sita back brings her back to his kingdom. Finally becomes the King of and then he kicks Sita out. Because somebody said "If Sita had been my wife I would've wondered what happened to her when she was with Raven." Anyway, so he said, "Hmm. That's a good one, out you go. I can't have this, out you go." He finally kicked her out, she was pregnant, she had twins and they both ended up fighting with Ram's brother, with Hanuman, the whole army and then finally Ram came, found the sons and Sita disappeared for ever. Now, and this is the story and and how does Sita disappear in the first place, they're sent to exile, they're sitting in a hut, this beautiful, beautiful you know, deer comes Sita says "Go chase", says to brother-in-law "Go chase 'em, I want that deer." Right. And umm Ram goes after that, Lakshman goes after that everybody goes after that, he comes Raven the bad guy and he steals Sita and uh so at that point when he Hanuman or he could have turned around to his own brother, Ram could have and said, "listen, here is the Ramayan, you can read in there what happens, "I chain, she's not gonna end up with me anyway, so what's the point, let's drop it, let's go back. The whole thing happens, is this, I mean, is this it? Can't we have common sense and look at it and say.

Don't compare me to Jesus. I am not Jesus. If I was Jesus, my name would be Jesus, I would look like Jesus, I would act like Jesus. I don't look like Jesus, I'm not Jesus, I'm not Krishna, I don't look like Krishna, I have a moustache, I'm not Krishna. I'm not Buddha, I don't have those curly hairs, I'm not Buddha. I'm not Ram, I'm not Mohammed. You know and don't some people have that feeling of crisscrossing "Wow wouldn't that be wonderful?" I am me. (Applause) I'm not Mohammed and Krishna and Jesus and and if you want to love Mohammed, if you want to love Jesus then love, do something that will make you love Jesus more. Do it whatever it is, do it, if you want to love Jesus cause there's nothing wrong in loving Jesus and there's nothing wrong in loving Krishna and sometimes it helps to just have an idol or a or a picture or something of Jesus around. Look at all day, look at it as many times as you can. Read the Bible in which he, he says so many wonderful things. That they bring so much appreciation about Jesus but Knowledge is Knowledge is Knowledge is Knowledge is Knowledge. Even Jesus talks about it, yes And even Krishna talked about it yes. Mohammad's talked about it yes. Ram talked about it, it yes.
